Established in 1992, the EABJM, International School in Lille, opened its Primary school in September 2004.
In the first year, the school counted only two classes spanning years 4, 5 and 6, but the school has continued to grow, adding a further two classes in 2005 and reaching its current total of five classes in 2006.
These five classes cover the complete primary curriculum from years 2 to year 6 (with a small number of year 1 pupils).
Organisation of the school day
The school day is from 8.30 AM to 4 PM, with an hour and a half for
lunch, from 11.30 AM to 1 PM. The school day is divided in to four
teaching periods of one hour and thirty minutes. One period per day is
for English lessons by ability group.
The new legislation concerning the new Primary School timetable will
come into effect as of September 2008. Therefore, there will be no
lessons on Wednesdays. In accordance with the legislation, the time
freed from the former timetable will be used to address the particular
needs of the pupils, be it further study (updating the Primary school "Blog", sciences...for volunteers) or
study support (compulsory when asked by the teachers). This will take
place between 4.00 PM. and 5.00 PM. on Mondays and Thursdays.
We are lucky enough to have a native English speaker who coaches hockey
to some of our classes and to have secondary school teachers who run
Theatre lessons and Art Projects.
After school...
Our "garderie" can look after your child until 5.25 PM. After a play
time and a snack provided by the school, your child is free to
participate in a workshop (annual subscription to the chess club,
football, athlectics or rugby run by an English speaker) or to work with adult
guidance in the classroom.
Teaching
Our programmes of study and teaching methods are the same as the
schools in Paris : the Knock-Knock English immersion method, designed
by Madame Jeannine Manuel , the "active" methods used in the teaching
of science and maths and, above all, an openness to the outside world
in all its richness and diversity.
Our school in Lille has some particularities however. Chinese is taught
from year 2, but with the younger children lessons are centred around
games, songs and oral work; from CE1 (Year3), the teacher begins to
explore writing.
Foreign pupils who don't speak French are integrated into the French
classes; for one period each day they benefit from French as a foreign
language teaching.
By the end of the Year 6, the pupils in their final year in the primary
school are already familiar with the setting in which they will find
themselves in year 7.
Entry requirements.
After careful study of your child's admission form (the form can be downloaded from http://www.eabjm.org/home/admissions/Admission_Forms ), we will contact you to arrange a meeting with Madame Delemarre, the headteacher.
